If there’s one thing that is a plus to having virtual meetups is that you can have them more often! After the success of last month’s meetup, we scheduled the next event last week Saturday. With restrictions lifting a bit in my area and having the need to visit Burlington Camera, I headed out early armed with a couple of cameras and film to take on downtown Burlington. My original plan had been to head out early, make it into the downtown for 8 am, which gave me a couple of hours to shoot and then head over to Burlington Camera for a resupply. Sadly, Saturday morning dawned wet, pouring rain. And to make things worse, the Weather Network was reporting thunderstorms in Burlington. I decided to wait out the storm and headed out around 9:30 to go first to Burlington Camera then downtown.
My route took me starting at the Sunshine Doughnut company out along the lakeshore through Spencer Smith Park and the iconic Burlington Peer. Then past Brant Street swinging up Pearl and through the hidden gem that is Village Square. Stopping to get a coffee at Tamp. Then out along Pine to Brant Street through downtown all the way up to Central Public School. While not as interesting as other downtowns there are some interesting places along Brant Street. But the real gems in downtown Burlington are when you get into the historic side streets. So I took Locust down to Ontario, then back across through the Historic St. Luke’s Cemetary and to the car.
I got home shortly before the pub was supposed to open, so after grabbing lunch, I poured myself a Collective Arts beer, Good Monster, and joined the pub. Sadly, but at this point, the weather had improved greatly. Which I’m sure kept most people away from sitting on a computer when the weather outside turned delightful! But there was still a good showing from the usual crowd and some new faces. But the method does work well, and I do have plans to have another virtual meet at the end of this month, so keep an eye out for that.
As always, you can see all the photos I took from both this meetup and January’s meet all in a single Flickr album. Sadly due to scheduling and recording of the CCR Podcast, there will not be a virtual meet for March. If you want to get notified of April’s virtual meet, you can join the Toronto Film Shooters group on Facebook!
