We are kicking off our seventh season with an amazing photographer, Danielle who is on a mission to let the world know that there are some amazing women photographers out there that shoot film and is working towards building a collective of these photographers through the feature Women with Film Wednesday and The Film Sorority who sits down (remotely) with Bill and Chrissie!
Danielle is a passionate film photographer from Wisconsin, USA who started her journey with a thrift store find of a Canon AE-1 and quickly grew her collection to a total of forty cameras today. If you’re part of the film photography community and on Instagram, you’ll know of her mission to highlight the amazing women photographers who shoot with film and has begun using the hashtag “WomenWithFilmWednesday” and the account The Film Sorority to highlight these amazing photographers. The root is where in some cases at events, Danielle often felt ignored and left out of the event and conversation. The idea is to bring into the forefront and making women feel both included and comfortable within the male-dominated hobby and community as a whole. And to get to the point where women are just included and get to the points where every gender is naturally included and gets to that ideal place where the focus can be on the art. But there is still a long way to go as there still needs to be a better representation of all genders, races, and orientations. Plus, it will improve the community’s foundation and bring in some amazing artists as a result. While primarily a 35mm shooter, she recently picked up a Bronica ETRS to bring medium format into the mix. For film stocks, Danielle is primarily a colour shooter leaning towards Kodak Portra 160, as the grain in Portra 400 can be a little much.
